About Me:
Vusi Moloi is a former Television Journalist for the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC TV News) and former Correspondent for the South African Press Association (SAPA). He worked with the feminist organization Black Sash in Johannesburg prior to going into exile in 1987 and the organization’s leader Mrs. Sheena Duncan struck a common chord with Vusi who grew up in the traditional African society of women at Matamong as a herdboy. He began writing poetry in 1978 and his poems appeared in a variety of newspapers and literary publications. He delivered his last poetry rendition at the Women’s Liberation Conference organized by the Federation of Transvaal Women (FEDRAW) in Johannesburg at the University of Witwatersrand. The event was a big affair as it was attended by liberation stalwarts like Mrs. Winnie Mandela, Mrs. Albertina Sisulu, Mrs. Helen Joseph, Mr. Mzwakhe Mbuli, Mrs. McBride, Mr. Peter Mokaba among others. He credits the intellectual heavyweight Dr. S.D. Ngcongwane of the University of Zululand for inspiring and shaping his writing skills. Moreover Vusi’s philosophical outlook has been moulded by African women who nurtured and provided for him a protective bond during a harsh voyage of his childhood under apartheid. In his book A Goodbye To My Little Troubles Vusi pays deserved tribute to these powerful figures. Exiled to Northern Botswana, Vusi lived in the ANC camp (the African National Congress of Mr. Nelson Mandela) and continued his revolutionary poetry. Vusi immigrated to Canada in 1989 and has yet to relish the South African freedom.

some form of destruction by combustion

Amnesty.org

Let's tell Iris Robinson where she can stick it!

That's the rather piquant name of a Facebook group at the heart of a fightback against homophobia in Northern Ireland. The four thousand-strong campaign group on the social networking site is just one element of an online and offline campaign to challenge the anti-gay comments of Iris Robinson, an MP, MLA, Councillor, Chair of the NI Assembly's health committee (and, coincidentally, wife o

Tom Paine and The Rights of Man

It may soon be the sixtieth anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, but December 10th 1948 – albeit a massively significant moment – was not the starting point for human rights. We could have a long argument about which is the most significant date in the history of the development of human rights, but 1791 has got to be in with a shout. It was in London in Fe

'Outsourcing abuse'

There is a lot to be said for 'bringing human rights home'. I personally believe that, as individuals and humans, we have the moral authority to criticise other countries and others' governments for human rights abuses. If this was not a core moral belief of mine, I doubt that I would be such a strong supporter of Amnesty International. But I would probably go a step further and say that

Is Northern Ireland fuelling genocide in Darfur?

Could Northern Ireland be helping to fuel genocide in Darfur? That's the almost incredible prospect opened up by new revelations from the BBC. I have previously blogged about the possibility that Northern Ireland companies could be helping to supply key parts for the Chinese K-8 light attack jet. In turn, it is feared by Amnesty that these jets have been sold on by China to human rights-a
